Tucson Gem, Mineral & Fossil Showcase (Arizona)
Tucson is not one show but dozens, spread across the city every year in late January and February. The anchor is the Tucson Gem & Mineral Show run by the Tucson Gem and Mineral Society, held since 1955 and now filling 181,000 square feet of the Tucson Convention Center. Museums including the Smithsonian have exhibited there.
Between 1996 and 2010 it drew an average of about 1,300 dealers a year from 49 US states and 32 countries, and the whole showcase was estimated to bring $131.4 million to the Tucson economy in 2019. Most shows are open to the public; some trade shows require a business licence.
Mineral & Gem, Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines (Alsace, France)
Held each June in a former mining town in the Vosges, Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines is the great European summer show. In 2026 it ran for professionals from Wednesday 24 to Sunday 28 June, with the Wednesday reserved for an Early Access pro pass, and opened to the public on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 June, from 9 am to 6 pm.
Access is by the A35 motorway (exit 17) then the RN59 from Mulhouse or Strasbourg, or by TER bus from Sélestat or Saint-Dié-des-Vosges stations. Official car parks offer about 5,000 spaces at €5 a vehicle, with shuttles to the centre. On Sunday afternoon tickets sold on site are at the reduced rate.
The Munich Show, Mineralientage München (Germany)
Munich closes the year in autumn and calls itself the world's leading trade show for minerals, fossils, gemstones and jewellery; Wikipedia describes it as Europe's largest. Its 2026 edition listed 1,335 exhibitors and 51,122 visitors over four days, with minerals and fossils alongside gemstones, jewellery and an identification service.

How to buy well at a show
Shows are the best place to see many pieces side by side. A few habits help:
- Go early for the best pieces; go on the last afternoon for the best prices.
- Bring a loupe, a small torch and a UV light to check for glue, coatings and repairs.
- Ask every dealer for the exact locality and whether anything is repaired or treated, and get it on the receipt.
- Look at the back and base of every piece before you agree a price.
- Plan how you will carry fragile specimens home: soft wrap, boxes, never loose in a bag.
