What anglesite is

Anglesite is lead sulfate. It forms when galena, lead sulfide, oxidises near the surface, and it often grows directly on galena or replaces it. It shares its structure with barite and celestine, grows as prismatic orthorhombic crystals, and at 74% lead is very heavy for a pale mineral, with a specific gravity around 6.3.

William Withering recognised it as a species in 1783 at the Parys copper mine on Anglesey in Wales; F. S. Beudant named it after the island in 1832.

Anglesite from Touissit

The Touissit lead-zinc district, in Jerada Province in Morocco's Oriental region, is among the classic modern sources of anglesite crystals. English Wikipedia illustrates the mineral with a Touissit crystal, and French Wikipedia with a 5 × 4 cm Touissit specimen. Pieces are often colourless to golden and gemmy, sometimes with galena, cerussite or barite.
